Cats are great pets in a lot of ways. However, a news article today reported results of a survey showing cats at No. 2 behind dogs as pets. The details were that 74 percent of people like dogs a lot, and 41 percent like cats a lot.

The survey, from an Associated-Press Petside.com poll, was originally published on Jan. 7, 2010, titled as: Dogs vs Cats: Who do Americans Like More?

Now this is a long-running issue. The only surprise is that we have yet another poll showing the same results that we have known almost throughout human history.

Okay, one other surprise came out of the survey, which provided new and perhaps politically incorrect information about cats as pets. What I mean is that it included ethnic preferences: the most likely ethnics groups to dislike cats were Blacks and Hispanics. Oh, and married men were more likely to dislike cats than were women.

It all baffles me. I love cats. I have had cats as pets since I was a young boy. I have two cats now, plus a friendly dog and a couple of chickens. Pets are just plain fun to own, especially cats!
